RSCA finish fourth in the Future Cup

FUTURE CUP 2024

By Friday, coach René Peeters had taken a very young squad to Amsterdam. Only five of the core players were born in 2007, while eight were born in 2008 and even five in 2009. Despite this low average age, the Sportingboys did not disappoint. On the contrary, they put in a solid performance at Sportpark Toekomst. In the end, the tournament was won by AFC Ajax, the organising club.

In the first match on Saturday, RSC Anderlecht came from behind to beat the solid Portuguese side Sporting Clube de Portugal. They won 3-1 thanks to goals from Gassimou Sylla, Yannis Bourard (curling shot into the top corner) and Terry Van de Ven. Unfortunately, they were beaten 0-2 later in the day by titleholders FC Nordsjælland (from Denmark), although they were by no means inferior. Three points from six at the end of the first day.

On Sunday, RSC Anderlecht needed to win against Paris Saint-Germain to be 100% sure of a place in the semi-finals. The French side quickly found the back of the net, but our colours completely turned the situation around on the quarter-hour mark with goals from Gassimou Sylla and Amar Milisic. Paris Saint-Germain capitalised on a defensive error to equalise after the break, but a fine header from Jayden Onia Seke made up for that and gave us the victory.

The Mauves faced Partizan Belgrade in the semi-final on Monday. The exchanges and the number of chances were balanced. The final score of 0-2 is therefore not a true reflection of the game. The Serbians were simply more precise in their finishing. In the consolation final against Paris Saint-Germain, Gabriel Biladi's initial goal was not enough to avoid defeat (1-2) in a duel in which our players did everything they could to force a penalty shoot-out, but to no avail.
