Joshua Bethume has signed his first professional contract with RSC Anderlecht. The young player put pen to paper on a three-season deal with Sporting last Thursday, on his 15th birthday.
Joshua is one of the talents of the 2009 generation. He first started playing football at BX Brussels, when he was just five. His talent was quickly spotted by the scouts of RSCA. He joined Neerpede permanently in 2016.
The young Brussels native quickly established himself as one of Neerpede's most promising youngsters. Capable of playing in midfield or as a right-back, Josh stands out for his versatility.
When asked about his qualities, Joshua quotes percussion, technique and game IQ. He likes to draw inspiration from players such as Mario Stroeykens, whose impact on the pitch he admires. A lifelong fan of Sporting, Joshua dreams of making his debut in the Lotto Park in the future.
Next season will see the ket from Neerpede play for the U18s. During the 2023/24 season, Joshua made a name for himself in the Future Cup, where he put in some quality performances against European teams such as PSG and Sporting Portugal despite facing players two years older.
Academy Director Mikkel Hemmersam: "Joshua is a modern, dynamic, box-to-box player. He combines a good mentality with excellent quality on the ball. We're looking forward to seeing him develop over the next few years."
Congratulations, Joshua.
