Devon De Corte has signed his first professional contract with RSC Anderlecht. The young Belgian-American, who came in at Neerpede last summer, will spend the next three seasons in Mauve.
Born to a Belgian father and an American mother, the young Devon played for the Philadelphia Union academy until last summer. After a successful trial at Neerpede in July 2023, Devon crossed the Atlantic to sign for Sporting.
The plan was for Devon, who back then just turned 17, to spend the season with the U18s. However, the midfielder made a strong impression in his first games and training sessions. He even went on to be chosen as best midfielder at the PSV Otten Cup last August, after having faced top European teams such as PSV, RB Leipzig and FC Copenhagen.
In early February, Devon made his professional debut with the RSCA Futures in a win over SL16 FC. He then kept on playing with the U23s, featuring in the 11 remaining games in the Challenger Pro League.
Devon also made a name for himself in the U19 Cup final, scoring twice against Club NXT. The Neerpedeboys won the game 4-1. He’s now been training with the first team in pre-season. The fans have already been able to see him in action in the friendly game against RU Tubize-Braine.
Academy Director Mikkel Hemmersam: 'Devon is technically gifted and has a good understanding of the game. He plays as a midfielder, and has all the qualities required for a box-to-box player, capable of both attacking and defending. What's special about Devon is his mentality. He's always eager to learn and to improve. We are excited to see his development at the club.'
Félicitations, Devon.
