Rune Verstrepen has signed his first professional contract with Sporting. The contract runs until June 2027.
Back in 2019. Rune is a 12-year old talent, who plays in the youth academy of KV Mechelen. He quickly caught the eye of the Neerpede scouts, who convinced him to move to the RSCA Belfius Academy. His father being a lifelong RSCA fan, joining the Mauves was a no-brainer for Rune.
Once he had settled in at Neerpede, Rune was able to establish himself in the midfield of a talented 2009 generation. His coaches have always praised his football IQ and the intensity he brings during games. He managed to be champion with the U13s in 2022.
Academy Director Mikkel Hemmersam: “Rune is a dynamic midfielder with a lot of qualities. He has shown to be a very professional player who works hard every day. We’re happy we can reward him with this sign of confidence and we’re very eager to see him progress further in the future.”
